We wanted to be able to bring our whole project team together in one place and showcase their talents to the world as a collective, so we decided to create our own website as a platform for achieving this.
Our intention of the website is to allow our team, and others, to see the wider picture and to be able to see that their individual contribution is part of something bigger that we hope will influence change on gender equality in the construction industry.
The website is also a platform to set out our vision and underlying aims for the project. Number one is to build a sustainable family home (within budget!) but also through the use of an all female team highlight the gender balance issues that exist within the built environment and construction industry, dispel myths about what jobs women can do and encourage more women into the industry by showcasing talented women working in all the different professions and trades needed to build a house.
The process of developing the website has been a huge learning curve for us, as neither of us have ever built a website before! As for blogging...I had to look up what that is!! I am hoping now that the initial layout and content are in place that I can pass the running of it onto our 13 year old son who is a whizz with technology (unlike his 51 year old technophobe of a step mother - me!!) So it may not be the slickest or shiniest of websites but hopefully it serves to show what we are doing, why we are undertaking this project, what a brilliant project team we are building and a call for others to reach out if they can help us in anyway.
Any suggestions for improvements to the website gratefully received. Thanks.
