We are so excited and honoured to have been shortlisted for the National Federation of Builders (NFB) Top 100 Most Influential Women in Construction in the Most Influential Client Category. We are really proud that the project and our vision of showcasing the talents of women in the construction industry has been recognised in this way.
Those who know us, know that we don't tend to do things by halves and this personal construction project on our family home is no different. It has given us the opportunity to be disruptive, to break the 'norm' and attempt something a little bit different. By assembling an all female design and build team we are aiming to raise awareness of the gender balance issues that exist within the built environment and construction industry. If we had assembled and used an all male team no-one would have raised an eyebrow but all women that's not the norm!
Diversity and equality in all forms is incredibly important to us and so it should be noted that within the term 'women' we are striving to demonstrate diversity to cover elements such as:
Age and generations by using apprentices to senior professionals and women entering the industry later in life, for instance after starting a family.
LGBTQIA+ to include those who identify as female, non-binary and trans women.
Culture, Race and Ethnicity to highlight minority groups.
The power of allyship can also not be underestimated and we welcome the support of all those wonderfully talented men who we know are in the construction industry.
The project has been a dream (and a rollercoaster) so far and we have been lucky enough to be working with an amazing group of women as part of the design phase. We are now looking to make links with women on 'the tools' for the build phase of the project. Please contact us if you can help at
